We have never had issue with pointing or following point with Aiden, or him to respond to his name.
Has anyone else with autism or pdd dx does not have issues with this?
he NEVER did it before but hnow he responds to his name consistently and points They responded to their names right on time and never had a problem with this. Pointing though was another story. They didn't point until almost 3, we started hand over hand a few months before their 3rd birthday. THey sure understand what pointing is all about now and that if they point to what they want they'll get it.at first there was no pointing or responding but hand over hand pointing helped and when she started to understand language she got alot more responsive over all.
she started with an autism dx then moved to ASD
Erin is 7...doesn't do either of these yet.....DS did not point often, but he did point. He would respond to his name most of the time, but there were those moments around age 2 when if he was engrossed with something--I'd have to call his name several times to get his attention. DS' weird red flag was that he did not wave/say bye-bye for the longest time (had lots of other speech before he did this, really strange). Although autistic symptoms are sometimes phrased like: do they point or not? respond or not? sometimes it's not one or the other, but that their joint attention is just weaker than it should be for their age. I and others thought for the longest time that DS could not be autistic because he could do X,Y, and Z--but if you look at my son's overall development picture, there is classic ASD scatter/splinter skills, meaning that he is age-appropriate for a number of areas, but has some clear deficits in some specific ares: social/emotional and communication--this is also autism.
